CoCo Asian Bistro

1841 Cordova Road
Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33316

If anyone can take Asian fusion to the next level, Chef Mike Ponluang can. With more than 30 years experience, Chef Ponluang mans Fort Lauderdale’s elegantly hip CoCo Asian Bistro. Formerly the owner and executive chef of Thai Pepper in Coral Springs, Chef Ponluang puts his award-winning reputation to new use at CoCo Asian Bistro, crafting a menu that balances the delicate tastes of Japanese, Thai, Korean and Vietnamese cuisines. Highlights on the menu range from Chef Ponluang’s hot noodle soups to creative twists on traditional favorites like som tum, a spicy green papaya salad with tomatoes and dried shrimp tossed with garlic and lime juice. In addition to its outstanding cuisine, CoCo Asian Bistro has developed a reputation for its innovative presentations, particularly when it comes to sushi. Chef Ponluang offers truly spectacular rolls, combining freshness with creativity, grace with edgy style. While imaginative cocktails round out the vast array of culinary offerings, the interior design focuses on the five elements of feng shui—earth, metal, fire, wood and water—making the bistro the epitome of balance and serenity. Featuring a water wall, CoCo Asian Bistro boasts a bold red carpet in the main dining room to represent fire, an abundance of well-placed pebbles to represent earth, romantic crystal pendant lighting to represent metal and intricate tiles to represent the final element, wood. Together, the elements create a comfortable urban atmosphere without sacrificing urban sophistication or intimacy. The atmosphere allows for the combination of seemingly disparate things: for example, a sushi chef preparing elaborate platters on one side of the bar and a bartender practicing the art of mixology at the other. But at CoCo Asian Bistro, everything comes together in seamless fashion. With other draws like jazz on the weekends, flat screen plasma TVs, an open kitchen, semi-private alcoves of high-backed banquettes and flawless service, CoCo Asian Bistro is a veritable Fort Lauderdale gem.
